Ice flowers formed on the window pane, the snowbanks shimmered in the setting sun. Emma and Franz were snowed in. It turned colder in the house, Franz went to the fireplace to add another log. In quiet they looked through the frosty window wishing that the setting sun would take the memories of their dire days with it, wishing that the sunrise in the morning would bring hope and happiness. The nights had grown longer, there were not many chores in the winter, they both enjoyed the quiet and peaceful evenings. After tending to the animals in the barn, Emma looked forward to sitting down on the sofa and rest, Franz would bring a blanket to keep her warm. It had kept snowing and snowing, the storm intensified, strong gusts of wind rattled the shutters. Watching the storm they felt like the drama of their dire times are being blown away never to return, they felt warmth and trust growing stronger between them. They both were survivors, zealots, never had lost faith and hope. They felt contentment, their deep inner self, a desire to share the track, walk toward better life together.
Lara had been trying to paste the torn pages together and follow the plight of Emma and Franz. She took a profound interest in following their path, felt so drawn to the two people’s journey. After many hours of reading she went for a walk to the park. All was so quiet, few birds were chirping, the crickets started to serenade the wild flowers, sun was setting behind the tall pines. Lara embraced the sunset just like her grandparents had done so many years ago.
